Holy Raspberries (Batman)!

Berries... of the rasp variety.

My favourite fruit.  I could eat thousands at a time.

One of the few (so, so, few) advantages of living in such a large urban area as I do is that raspberries are available year-round.

I know buying locally is better, and we do, for the most part - I will say that Ontario is a great place for produce, with surprising variety and many local co-op and farmers' markets available all the time; however, I admit to indulging in blueberries and raspberries even when no Canadian clime could possibly grow anything save perhaps icicles... or enmity.

Most of them seem to come from Chile, and California.  I don't even want to think about how many resources were spent bringing them to me here... so I just won't.  ;)

There are many evil things in this world... and although I could be wrong, I'm fairly certain raspberries are not among them.

  1. I totally agree that raspberries are one of nature's best fruits. I used to grow buckets-full of these in Alberta. I tried to import a few plants to Vancouver but unfortunately, have not had much success in new location. I am hoping that year two will result in more plants and berries. I also planted 3 blueberry bushes in hopes of having a bountiful crop of blueberries .... not much luck there as well. Oh well, next season for these too!!

  2. Yes, I'm truly jealous!
Plus, at least in Vancouver, you've likely got a growing season FAR more amenable to having berries year-round... or close thereabouts.
